Kickin' it with the Wrong Crowd

Good garage bands don't die, they just rename themselves.

Formerly known as the Black Tarantulas, the moppy-headed foursome now calling itself the Wrong Crowd will be opening for Vampire Hands at the Caverns in Minneapolis next Friday. If you can't get your punk ass up north though, catch them at Harling's tomorrow night with Lawrence's Coat Party.

Beware though...

They might suck, like they did when they played a show at the ill-fated downtown music venue, The Studio.

This note was posted on the Wrong Crowd's myspace page from the management at the Studio.

"I was really disappointed in the show you guys put on last Saturday. There were several issues with the sound, tuning, energy, being late and the 0 paid covers thing kind of sucked too. I asked for your help to make that show a big success and you brought your D game. Were you guys hung over or what? I am a fan of your music and want to have you in again. The first show you did here kicked ass. What happened?" - The Studio Bar

Maybe they just brought the wrong crowd.

Emphasis on "good." They are nothing special for a garage band. Standard Black Lips rip-off band. I'd lump the Strange Boys in to the same category, but they, at least, have a distinctive lead singer.

You have got to be kidding me. I went to the Studio several times and it was absolutely horrific each time.

I went to see bands I knew and liked. The sound was horrible. Absolutely horrible. I watched in awe over the shoulder of the hessian sound guy slaughtering my friends, one member at a time. The sound check was a joke.

The acoustics in the building were terrible; it was actually physically very painful. The lights were never low and there was no escape from the clanging, not even hiding in the front window of the adjacent dining room. We were forced to leave each time and have never heard good word from bands about playing there.

If the bar's equipment wasn't crap as well, then the sound guy(s) and the mgmt. that hired them should be paying restitution to the bands. Who was booking, who did promotions, who flyered, who sent the shows to the Pitch? Every show I ever knew about there was word of mouth via a band I knew personally.

The door guy was OK, the bartender, despite being trapped and tortured by the sound, was really sweet. but the sound and the lighting alone made it a really god awful place. The fact that they would do something like attack a band for a bad night at their bar, especially after a good show, is not surprising.

I say don't judge them 'til you see them, and certainly don't judge them by what the Studio says. RIP jerks.
