Apparently, the Arts Council of Metropolitan Kansas City Board of Directors finds Alacartoona and People's Liberation Big Band especially inspirational. Both of the local music groups will benefit from more than $9,000 in ArtsKC Fund Inspiration Awards that the council handed out recently.

Cabaret act Alacartoona gets $2,000, a sum earmarked as "support to create a DVD recording to capture the excitement and vitality of one of their live performances in order to reach a broader geographical market and booking more touring dates."

People's Liberation Big Band, by way of sax-man, bassoonist and percussionist Patrick Alonzo Conway gets $1,000 to create an original score to go with the silent film The Battleship Potemkin. The band will play the score at the Pistol in May.

A complete list of the grant recipients is posted at ArtsKC.org.
