Microsoft Songsmith is the Rain Man of Songsmithery

Posted by Chris Packham on Mon, Jan 19, 2009 at 10:36 AM

Last week, we all had a hearty laugh at the expense of the horrible commercial for the ridiculous,

yet somehow impressive Microsoft Songsmith Embarrassment Software Suite

For Singing. In case you missed it, here's the video:

America came together as one people to make fun of this horrible video. Then,

a brave pilot summoned a lifetime's experience to safely land a

disabled commercial jet in the Hudson river, saving everyone on board, thereby distracting the country from Microsoft's embarrassing internet-fomercial.

Very inspiring!

Tomorrow, America observes the historic inauguration of

the country's first African American president. The interregnum between

inspiring events is narrow, so we'll have to make fun of new Microsoft

Songsmith developments quickly. Fortunately, the hilarious Lindsay

Robertson of Videogum posted this collection of videos in which some

funny people ran the vocal tracks for famous pop songs through

Microsoft Songsmith with unbelievable results. For instance! "Every

Breath You Take" by The Police is recontextualized as a

South-of-the-border digital loop such as might be emitted by a Casio

keyboard from the 1980s:

Check out Videogum for reinterpretations of hits from Oasis and the Cars.
