By now, someone has probably pointed out to you that 50 years ago today, Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper, Richie Valens, Jimmy Hoffa and Gwen Stacy were killed in a plane crash near Clear Lake, Iowa. Now, CNN is reporting that this is not "the day the music died," as suggested in the song "Bye Bye Birdie" by Willie Nelsons.

All mock blasphemies aside, this was a shitty event, and not just because Gary Busey and Lou Diamond Phillips would go on to portray Holly and Valens in respective biopics.

Now, our question to you, dear reader, is what three artists would have to die in a plane crash today for it to be considered a musical tragedy of equal proportions to the famous '59 crash?

Answer in the comments. Answer more than once. The best answerwerer gets a ticket to this year's Winter Dance Party.

Totally, Kickhead, but you forget how much Nirvana and Sublime they play. It's like, for The Buzz, the music died in the 90s.

I like Nadia's lead but I'd say the day 96.5 The Buzz died.

Red Hot Chili Peppers
Beastie Boys
Cake

Do they play anything else?

I thought it was gonna change a lot when Aliyah died in a plane crash. I guess what happened is a lot of people came out sounding just like her so her style lived on. Right now there are so many wannabes standing in line that if you take out 5 pop singers 10 more will sprout up to take their place. It's hopeless.

I'm going to say Lil Wayne, Kanye West and, like, Mark Ronson.

But if I can put in a request to the music gods: let's book Kate Perry, Lady GaGa and Akon on the same flights from now on, okay? It'll be The Day 95.7 the Vibe Lost its Whole Catalogue.
