While you were sitting on the couch with your hand in a bag of donuts and a bottle of Ranch wedged in your double-chin, someone at MTV was actually hard at work live blogging the show you were both watching. Said live-blogger writes:
8:22 pm - "Backstage at the Kodak Theater, Von Smith is preparing for his performance." Which means he's getting ready to unhinge his jaw and scream like a banshee. Can't wait!
8:22 pm - Stephen Fowler is singing a hard Stevie Wonder song well. Jorge Garcia is doing well.
8:24 pm - VON SMITH ALERT! Facial tics, check. Glass-breaking decibal levels, check. Smackdown from Simon, check. Poor thing.
8:25 pm - He made it! More Von on the way. Woot!
Thank you, MTV Newsroom, for reporting the advancement of the infamous, twitchy, Greenwood, Missouri, native Von Smith past day one of American Idol's Hollywood Week.
More Idol news after the Vonheads.
Those friendly, supportive folks at the RIAA have certified that David Cook's debut, Five-Day Tranny Beard!, has gone platinum.
I'm sorry, that was wrong -- I misread the press release. The name of the album is David Cook. No exclamation point. Meanwhile, former Cook nemesis David Archuleta, despite having his own album out, continues to be mistaken for a salad ingredient.
Woot.
Cooky brings his boldly titled "Declaration Tour" to Kansas City on Wednesday, April 22, where he will play at Ameristar Casino. Ranch dressing will be available at the salad bar.

I get really sick of people who don't give an artist a chance just because they didn't "take a traditional path" to stardom. It smacks of ignorance, jealousy and just plain snobbery. I cannot speak for Star (or charting artist Matt Nathanson who also will be opening for Cook)but Cook has been in the music business for 10 years but it is obvious most people haven't bothered to check out his history/previous work. How someone of his calliber was not "discovered" previously is just a testament to how hard it is to break into the music business. His decision to take the Idol path despite knowing that snobs like BarefootServant would try to belittle his efforts has been a smart move on his part. His name is out there and he is a platinum selling recording artist with a soldout tour. In David's words, "Suck It", BarefootServer. The fucking joke is on you.
