Not the Schoolhouse Rock you remember?

Posted by Jason Harper on Wed, Feb 18, 2009 at 10:11 AM

Considering how this morning, those bloody Cassandras on NPR talked about how Dennis Blair, the National Intelligence Director, is saying that the biggest threat to national security right now is the global economic crisis, I thought I'd take a dip in the soothing waters of childhood remembered. Nothing takes me back quite like those gently instructional, quaint and oh-so catchy Saturday-morning installments of Schoolhouse Rock.

But wait. Maybe they aren't as sweet as I remembered. In fact, maybe some of them FUCKING WARNED US ABOUT THIS MESS.

In this one, junior wants to go on a band trip to the Rose Bowl. Dad explains that this cannot be, because while the family makes a decent living, they are drowning in expenses.

And in this one, a red-white-and-blue dinosaur in Washington, D.C., eats up all our money.

Where is the childhood I remember? Fuck this, I'm going to the mall.
