Well, the hippies around these parts lost their annual festival when Wakarusa moved to Arkansas. But local metalheads now have a reason to rejoice. On June 6 and 7, the Beaumont Club will host a two-day hardcore and metal fest that's sure to wreak some major aural damage. Consider American Waste a sort of regional Ozzfest, featuring more than 30 of the heaviest riffers from Kansas City, Lawrence and slightly beyond. Line-up highlights: Testament, Coalesce, Unearth, Eyes of the Betrayer, Hammerlord, Blinding Light, 100 Years War, Snake Eater and At the Left Hand of God. Organizers say they'll make the event annual if it succeeds.

ridiculous to call it a hardcore and metal fest since there are only 3 hardcore bands on the entire bill.

The biggest metal event I've been excited for since I went to Phantasm Fest at El Torreon a couple years ago. So stoked!!
