The only reason the name Brokencyde or (blarf) brokeNCYDE means anything to me is because of regular contributor and former Pitch music editor Andrew Miller's comprehensively scathing and hilarious look at the band's career on SomethingAwful.com a few weeks ago. My stomach still hurts a little now from laughing so hard.
At the same time, I'm also hurting from the fact that I'm now familiar with this stridently awful group. And now you will hurt too.
No, that is not a mashup. Your ears really are hearing cheap-ass, crappy electro production with with wretched screamo vocal outbursts mixed in. I feel truly sorry for the parents whose kids listen to this dreck at home. If I were a parent, I would rather deafen my own child permanently than have him hear this. Seriously, this is the end of music as we know it. I encourage you to join me in being nowhere near the Saints & Sinners Tour tonight at the Beaumont, lest we catch even one undistilled note of that sheer aural horror.
On the upside of things, Madeleine Peyroux is in town, playing tonight at the Folly Theater, and she's quite good -- soothing, charming, sophisticated. It won't completely cancel out the mindbreaking wretchedness of what we've already witnessed here today, but it will help. Sorry, Ms. Peyroux, for putting you in the same blog entry as that other band. You deserve so much better. If it helps, we are sending a reviewer to the show, and he will probably like you a lot.
