The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, the Flying Burrito Brothers, Frank Zappa, Brewer & Shipley, the Byrds, King motherfuckin' Crimson -- they all played at Kansas City's Cowtown Ballroom during its heyday of 1971-74. Readers will remember that some local filmmakers, Joe Heyen and Tony Ladesich, have been at work on a documentary about the venue that rocked and rolled where the El Torreon now lies dormant. Cowtown Ballroom: Sweet Jesus is finished, and it's coming to the Tivoli in Westport for a weeklong three-week-long run beginning on May 22. Get more info about the project at Cowbr.com

I remember seeing 'Mountain' at the Cowtown. Was right up against the stage and Leslie West seemed to approve of my guy and me. He reached down after the song and grabbed our hands. One of the best memories ever!
