I about shit my pants a few minutes ago, when I stumbled upon an announcement at HipHopKC.com that N.E.R.D. and Clipse -- two of my favorite hip-hop groups of the past few years -- are playing a show at UMKC this Saturday, April 11. I found a press release buried on the Star's site; a call to UMKC's central ticket office confirmed it. Sponsored by the University's Activity and Program Council (APC), the show is at Swinney Recreation Center at 7 p.m. Click here or on the web flyer below for ticket info.
It's possible that a combination of bad PR plus a whopping $27.50 ticket price for non-students ($5 if you're a lucky Kangaroo) has kept this show under-hyped. Holy shit. Damn. Well, I may have to buck up and go. N.E.R.D. put on one of the best shows I saw at SXSW 2008. And Clipse's 2006 masterpiece Hell Hath No Fury, produced by the Neptunes (Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo of N.E.R.D.) is always on rotation at the Wayward crib, because of jams like this and this.
Showing 1-8 of 8
yea this was a dope ass show and common is coming here too.
Clipse put on an amazing show at the Pitchfork Music fest last summer in support of Hell Hath No Fury. I'm a huge fan and am kicking myself for not being able to attend the show on a few days notice!!
No, I agree. I'm not an APC member and don't know who their PR rep is. But I do write for the U-News and, while covering another APC story, found out about the concert. I was surprised at how little I knew about it. I advised them to take out an ad in the paper, and they did. I also mentioned it in my article and added it to our Save the Date section. So I guess I did what I could to promote it. Really, I just want more people to read the paper because, well, I'm afraid a lot of people don't. There is some valuable info. in there.
That's true, Tyler. Just the same, I would have appreciated a press release. If publicists hither and yon can be bothered to send me press releases whenever their unknown artists release an album, tour Madascar or fall down the stairs at Graceland, surely UMKC can alert all the local media when a HUGE concert like this is in the works.
Who really reads UMKC U-News?
Should be a sick show regardless.
If you would read the UMKC's U-News, you would have known about the show. www.unews.com
My favorite Clipse is this one:
