Dan Deacon: It's chemistry, witch.

Baltimore-based electronic experimenter and homme sauvage Dan Deacon is coming to the Pistol Social Club in Kansas City on May 1. He recently spoke with Pitchfork's Tom Breihan about the records he loved at ages 5, 10, 15, and 20.

Deacon's memories of listening to the Beatles' "Rocky Racoon" as a wee sprog are too cute not to quote:

I always thought the singer of the Beatles was John Lemon, and I imagined a huge lemon with a top hat, kind of like Mr. Peanut but the lemon version. When my parents told me someone shot John Lemon in New York City, I just couldn't understand it. The image of this lemon man shot and holding his bleeding chest, standing in the middle of the road, is a really strong one in my mind. Anyway, a big lemon singing a song about a raccoon was perfect for my five-year-old mind.

A plethora of free MP3s is yours for the gobbling at Deacon's Web site.

Hey all,

The doors for Deacon's show are at 11pm. He will play in our neighboring venue, the Foundation Room. Inside the Pistol from 8-11pm the People's Liberation Big Band is scoring the silent film Battleship Potemkin. The two events are independent and have separate admissions. Big night in the Union Building! Thanks Harper for the blogging. Thanks for showing up at Spinal Tap.

Cheers,

Joe/PSC
