Thanks to Back to Rockville for drawing our attention to the review Pitchfork posted today of Kansas City band the Life and Times' latest album, Tragic Boogie. The 'fork verdict is a 6.9 out of 10. And we know what that means. It means the reviewer secretly wants to lie down on the band ... upside down. ROFL!!!
Oddly, TLAT's previous album, Suburban Hymns, rated a 7.4 on Pitchfork in 2005. Perhaps we can take a cue from Idolator and look at the last line of each review to understand why our beloved band dropped .5 points in P-fork's estimation from Hymns to Boogie.
Suburban Hymns (2005)

Closing line: Hopefully, Epley can keep The Life and Times together for a few more recordings, because it sounds like he has the right group of musicians to push his vision forward, if he wants to.
Tragic Boogie (2009)

Closing line: In fact, it's probably best to approach Tragic Boogie the way you'd approach a summer movie blockbuster-- there might not be much happening on the screen in terms of substantive depth, but it looks and sounds great, and the special effects are out of this world.
Um ... no. That revealed nothing. Except maybe that Jason Crock sustained a head injury in 2005. In fact, that same year, Mr. Crock bestowed a 6.5 to another local band, one Doris Henson (RIP), saying, in the closing line of that review:
I love the fact Doris Henson have a sense of humor, but the flip between the smirk and the earnestness is awkward-- and tracks like "Sidestepping" or the dreamy closer "When You Go" just shine so much brighter to my ears.
Shine to his ears? Definitely a head case.
Anyway, we love you, Life and Times. Carry on. If Allen wants to.

R1 � Gracie immediately starts working for the takedown, while Beltran defends and they clinch on the cage. Gracie finally manages to wrestle Beltran to the ground and quickly takes his back before transitioning to full mount. Beltran bucks and reverses into Gracie�s full guard before backing out and forcing Gracie to stand. Beltran catches a kick and counters with a hard right hand. Gracie catches Beltran with a couple solid right hands, but eats a few shots as well. They go toe-to-toe with some sloppy, wide punches for a bit, neither fighter doing a lot of damage. The round ends with Gracie going for a takedown, but taking numerous hammerfists to the head.
