Lenny D has something to show your eardrums. It's a brand-new mix that was originally featured on Miles Bonny's INnatesounds podcast, which you can follow via iTunes. Download Dstroy's mix below, and skip over to www.innatesounds.com for a wealth of audio-visual material, including video blogs, downloads, albums for sale, gardening tips and clown porn. (Just kidding -- there are no gardening tips on Innatesounds.com.)
MP3: Leonard Dstroy, April 2009 Mix
Miles tells us that Lenny's mix is an example of the kind of sounds that'll be passed around every Wednesday, starting on May 20, at the brand-new Scion Lab at 19th & Locust. Sponsored, obviously, by Toyota, the Scion Lab is "a spot opened to foster the local art community," says Miles, a music liaison for the project. Keep reading for more.
Next Wednesday, May 20, Lenny and Miles will be joined by R&B/hip-hop artist Reggie B. and MC Brother of Moses (Deep Thinkers) for the first installment of the Lab's Future Funk Wednesdays series.
According to Miles, Reggie is an "INternationally known singer and producer" grew up in Topeka, moved to California, then the East Coast, and just recently landed in KC to be closer to his INnatesounds Crew. RB is planning to release four projects -- including two solo albums -- on INnate by the end of the summer, so keep your ear to the smoother parts of the underground.
Future Future Funks will bring ...
Wednesday, May 27: General Ali, aka Cutty Slicks
Says Miles: "the founding member of Ces Cru who has recently returned to KC and is making a huge impact on innatesounds right now, in addition to having completed a stupidly bonkers album with Leonard DStroy recently that will be out soon."
Wednesday, June 3: Greg Enemy
At each of these events, Bonny promises to interview the main performer live and post it online.
Mr. Bonny would also have you know that he is DJing and playing trumpet with Organic Proof, May 22, at the Record Bar.
In fact, if you ever need to give someone from out of town an entry point for Kansas City music of the beat-oriented variety, just show them to Miles. INnatesounds is pretty much taking over.
