Tonight: My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult breaks up, cancels gig and tour.

Posted by Jason Harper on Wed, May 13, 2009 at 2:02 PM

Those looking forward to some Sex on Wheelz tonight at the Record Bar will be disappointed. My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult's gig is canceled "due to breakup," according to the venue's Web site. Evidently, the 21-year-old band called it quits last night in Tulsa, just five days into its Death Threat Tour.

Denver show April 9th 2011. Band didn't come on until 12:12. Back up singers vocals were over the top. WORST SHOW EVER!!!!!. I considered taking 5 pint glasses from the bar in order to get my money back for such a crap ass performance. Any one looking to go to the show save your money and time. I have been a fan for a long time and this is a shit show. The only redeeming feature was the venue had 5 dollar drinks.

Who doesn't remember the tour without Buzz in Canada. All bands fight with each other no matter how long they have been together. I just think that they lost their edge a long time ago. You never hear the new music live and that is such a disappointment. Gone are the days of Hit and Run Holiday. There is nothing like a TKK show but it's the same old thing over and over.

They fight like a bunch of girls at summer camp. Too bad it seems to ruin tours. I remember when Buzz took off and left the tour mad a few years ago and said he was sick. The band tried to cover it up and continue performing as if he was there playing. I had friends in Canada that were pretty pissed. Then the band fired that Davey Dasher guy and he was the one that picked up the slack for missing member. Then what about Levi? After how many years? What a nice bunch of people. I miss the 90's too. There seems to be a pattern of meeting and using people and then not paying the proper respects due.

Who cares about them anymore really? I followed them from the start but after 13 Above the Night they just sucked. The shooting up and other drug use started to really show. If you can't even make a ripple as far as news stories go about a rumor about breaking up then that shows how relavant you are nowadays. And if you cancel a tour without enough respect for your fans to make a good enough statement, then you might as well break up. Done for as they should be. Just enjoy what good work they did produce (in the 90's).

There was no strep throat. Did your friend mention the fight about Groovie's microphone being turned down/off and being badly lit during the show? TENSION! You aren't the ONLY person who "knows some of them." The bottom line is that it's SO disrespectful to do this to people who love and support them. Who takes the boyfriend or girlfriend on the road anyway?

I was at the Tulsa gig and at the after party... the band members were not fighting at all. It was Groovie who was fighting with his boyfriend after the show at the venue. Guy was suppossed to be selling merch but didn't seem to be able to handle it and stormed out. My friend knows some of them pretty well and said Groovie claimed to have strep throat and he and his boyfriend took off for LA and left the band in Tulsa. Weak.

Whatever the case may be, it sucks. I was planning on seeing them in Des Moines and in Chicago on the second leg of the tour. I emailed Tina C and I got the same strep throat/travel issues message. No one does sleaze like TKK.

What strep throat infection? Groovie has been seen around town and is not sick. My friend in Tulsa said that there was nasty fight between the band members and he left that night pissed off at the band. WTF! Pay the guy what he deserves.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUK, This absolutely sucks, standing here in Denver, with now show. I was hoping to meet the band finally and get some art work signed by the group. I really hope they get it all together. Life is too short, keep on Rock'n it TKK.

These things should not happen after 21 years of touring. This is depressing and has really rocked the TKK fan world. I had friends at the "weird mood" show and things were not cool between the band members. I don't think anyone was spreading rumors of a break up to hurt the band, actions speak louder than words. Just get back together and play the rest of the shows. I will NEVER buy a ticket to one of these shows unless it's a walk up sale.

A spokesperson from the band wrote me back today and said:

"we had to cancel some shows for a variety of reason, including groovie mann has strep throat and our transportation has been a disaster to deal with. hopefully the west coast shows will go on. there has been no official statement from the band."

I was woken up by Mars on Thursday morning after advancing sound check w/ him on Friday evening. He was distressed and said that they broke up. He said, "I'm sorry but what can I do. The singer flew back to LA this morning." And then some other things about transportation and the age of the members possibly being the factor that they called it quits. Either way, what I twittered is my opinion. I was mad as a fan not as a promoter. I wanted to see them, as did all the other people that bought tickets in advance. I did not intend nor do I believe I was spreading anything false. Here's to hoping they get it together.

Chicago Dave: I didn't know what you meant exactly, so I felt the need to wrench it out of you. Yuk yuk.

Bullshit: I trust the guys at the Record Bar at their word. Certainly more than I do an anonymous commenter. Venting opinions on Twitter and spreading false information are not the same thing. In any case, I have a line in to the band's management and hopefully will get something definitive back.

It is true that the band has canceled shows and have some internal issues, but it has come to my attention that Steve Tulipana from Record Bar started telling people that the band broke up in Tulsa because he was mad that they canceled (http://twitter.com/tulipana). What a cry baby. It is bullshit that this article is even online, citing Record Bar as their source for info on the band breaking up. The band hasn't even issued any official statement.

Harper, a manager at Record Bar told me that. Don't be a tool. You knew exactly what I meant. I asked if the band or their tour manager actually called to tell them about a breakup and he said someone from the band had called. The info about Groovie getting pissed and walking off mid-set was something the manager heard from "someone at the Tulsa show." I've asked other people who attended the Tulsa show. One such person wrote: "i went to the show last night in tulsa and almost towards the end... i think and felt that Groovie wanted to stop the show... they finished though. they all looked beyond tired. but they all still smashed it! it was an odd mood from start to finish."

Chicago Dave: "I have heard the KC, MO venue say..."

Who said this, exactly? Venues don't talk, and I didn't mean to imply that "the venue at Tulsa" reported their breakup.

First, the Record Bar Web site reported the breakup. Then, I called one of the RB's owners, and he confirmed that someone from TKK called in that morning to inform them the band had decided to break up last night in Tulsa. Hints were given as to why, but pending a statement from the band, it's all hearsay.

TKK's shows are something special. Always amazing. Why would you think that is what YouTube is for? I think for the venue at Tulsa to say that a band broke up without knowing the full details is not right. I can't imagine TKK breaking up. Someone who was at the Tulsa show told me that the mood on the stage was weird, and it looked like they wanted to stop playing, but they played the full set - whereas I have heard the KC, MO venue say that Groovie walked off pissed in the middle of the set.
