It's the collabo some local heads have been waiting for...
Topeka-bred rapper and producer Stik Figa (mayne) recently teamed up with Ron Ron (the rapper so nice they named him twice) for a track called "Caked Up."

Ever since Stik leaked the joint on his MySpace page,
he's been hearing rave reviews. How did a feel-good artist from Top
City come to record music with a street rapper who was -- at least
temporarily -- from the wrong side of the tracks?
"It was a weird thing," Stik says. "This guy Grant Rice has been cool with Str8jacket,
who's been cool with me for a long time. He's from Topeka. So Grant
hit me up and said, 'You really need to hear Ron Ron, he's a fan of
yours and he wants to get at you.' Then Ron Ron called me out of the
blue, saying he got the number from Mac Lethal at a show or something.
Since then, we've been like, we gotta get something done."
Stik
had the "Caked Up" beat already, and once Ron Ron and Stik recorded
verses over it, it was a wrap. That song, plus another track, are
already in the bag for what Stik and Ron Ron hope will become an album
by the end of the year. The other song Stik's guarding with his life,
trying to make us drool.
"The thing about Ron Ron is, he's
just solid," Stik says. "Just dope, all the way around. I was like,
it's stupid that no one's hollering at this guy. I was talking to Greg Enemy for awhile, we were asking ourselves, 'Who's the guy right now? Who's the guy
on the other side of Troost, who is he?' I don't want the 'okay' dude
who's been to prison seven million times...I want the guy who's dope.
Ron Ron's name kept poppin' up, and when I saw "Hey Honey," I was like, what's this?"
So, for the uninitiated: What does "caked up" mean, exactly?
"Caked up
means getting money," Stik says. "Let me say it like Spock would say
it: It's the accumulation of large amounts of funds, earned in a means
that is sometimes shady or illegal." He laughs. "But since I'm not that
kind of dude, I rapped about actual cake."
The sample Stik used on the track -- "all my ni@@as caked up" -- is from "Mr. Me Too" by Clipse featuring Pharrell Williams.
"Let
it swish around in your brain, put it on in the car and drive around
town for awhile," Stik advises. He's frustrated with the quick
expiration dates on new hip-hop music today, like how a new track gets
old before its time. "That's what I've been going through with making
another record. Do I throw it up on the internet for free, like
everyone else? I'm battling with that, with this record I love so much.
It's my baby. I don't want to throw it out like that. People are such
businessmen on this. Is there any musician left in anybody anymore,
that give a damn?"
Yes, and apparently their names are Stik
Figa and Ron Ron, though we have to wait awhile for that one -- Ron
Ron's a busy man, Stik says. In the more immanent future, look out for
an album of Stik with Oddisee, plus Stik's upcoming solo album, due out...soon!

Having engineered/ mixed this project personally, I can vouch for how amazing these tracks are. A couple quick bonus points everyone should know... Greg Enemy created the instrumentals, and everyone should also be on the look out for the equally amazing collaborations between Stik Figa and AduLLessence.
