Incoming: Wailers Perform "Exodus" In Its Entirety

Posted by Nick Spacek on Mon, Jun 29, 2009 at 1:20 PM

Legendary reggae act the Wailers plays the Crossroads on July 26. The show will feature a full performance of their 1977 album, Exodus, named "Album of the Century" by TIME Magazine in 1998. The Wailers will be using the tour to bring more attention to their "I Went Hungry" charity, which donates unused funds from the band's hospitality riders directly to the United Nation's World Food Program. To date, the charity has already fed over 120,000 people.

The group is now led by bassist and musical director Aston "Family Man" Barrett, the group's sole surviving original member. So, to be honest, it's "Aston Barrett with hired guns as backing band playing Wailers tunes" as opposed to "the Wailers." Still, Exodus top-to-bottom is pretty cool. Not as cool as They Might Be Giants doing Flood or GZA doing Liquid Swords, but cool.

And you get Toots & the Maytals as openers! That's worth the price of admission alone, really. Toots has sold out pretty much every show he's ever played in the area, so get your tickets early. I've got a feeling this two-fer will attract every white kid with dreads and a Jamaican flag tam for miles around.
