Dear Anonymous,
First, thanks. I couldn't have done it though. I'm on tour with James Christos and DJ Jamel Rockwell. Check out our blog; it's pretty awesome! (Tooting my own horn!)
I'm pretty familiar with the artists that performed, and I'm sure they did a good job before, during, and after the event. It's a "Taste of Troost," and if you make an honest assessment, you're more likely to hear the actual performers music coming from miscellaneous cars on Troost than your desired performers. Not because of "the divide", (I'm probably gonna catch some flack for saying this, but oh well) it's more because "the Midtown scene" is fairly enclosed/cliquish. The actual performers have been grinding hard for a while, without the benefit of having venues to regularly gig in. They're putting out massive amounts of product and street hustling it to the people directly. That's the " Taste of Troost" that I like.
Me, personally, I would've loved to see Max Groove. Dude is the truth! Hope everything went well, and everyone had some good summer fun.
Right on, howard, Lifted! I'll be posting pictures and words from yesterday's wild and hot event on Monday!
Dear Anonymous,
We, along with the great staff of 7th Heaven organized the Taste of Troost.(Also special thanks to the Pitch, especially Jason Harper for all your help and support. We truly appreciate everything you did to help make this event happen!) We would like you and any other fans or hungry local artists to know that no matter what the genre or what part of the "KC hip hop divide" that an artist falls into, we would absolutely love to have them perform at any of the events we plan. To contact us please visit LiftedLogic.com or simply email us at info@liftedlogic.com. And for the record, we did reach out to certain acts that you mentioned in your post, but did not receive any responses. However, we will be doing another one of these events very soon, and would jump at the chance to work with all of them, as long as the feeling is mutual.
Dear anonymous...comments such as yours creates the divide. As I'm sure you know, there is no way to satisfy everyone. The concept of the show was to give as many people as possible some exposure. A diversity of acts helped to create what is the "taste of Troost". The thousands that attended all had a great time, the K.C. Police were cool, and next year I plan to attend Taste of Troost again. Let's find reasons to be positive and constructive. Like Jason said, reach out to the peeps at 7th Heaven...I'm sure they will appreciate your comments. What other music store has been a welcoming home for local music...for 35 years?
Awesome. I love the 15 minute set times for the early acts. I can see someone using the Dave Chappelle "Wrap it up" box on 'em. I'm also loving the 5 minute change overs. This event should be wrapped up by Tuesday. I'm gonna do my best to catch Jahration and Seedlove for sure. And by a water pipe for moms.
I know for a fact some of those artists were contacted about participating in this. For whatever reason, they're not on the lineup.
And, really, come on. You can see a lot of the acts you just mentioned several times a month in midtown -- they're at an all-time high right now thanks to Scion-sponsored events. These guys never get to play their own city.
Give the other side a chance, Anonymous. In fact, if you're involved in the hip-hop scene, why don't YOU reach out to the 7th Heaven peeps instead of shooting down the rare occasion that they get to play?
So, once again there's a completely one-sided representation of the hip-hop community. Where's Ces Cru, Soul Servers, Reach, James Christos, ThePhantom, PL, Royce Diamond, Miles Bonny, Reggie B, HEET MOBB, or Greg Enemy?
Once again, thanks for helping to widen the divide!
