If you missed the Boss when he came through last August, you'll be getting another chance this October 26, when Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band return to Kansas City's Sprint Center as part of a 25-date extension of the "Workin' on a Dream Tour," which began 221 years ago when the U.S. Constitution was ratified and replaced the Articles of Confederation. Tickets go on sale August 8.
I exaggerate the length of the tour, slightly, but it has been going on a while. And if Springsteen was not a rich man before he began Workin' on this Dream, he is now. He's sold 1.5 million tickets in 2009 so far (that doesn't even count the first leg of the tour) and is expected to top 2 million by year's end. That's tickets, mind you, not dollars in ticket sales. Multiply 2 million tickets by a conservative average of $50 a ticket and you've got a hundred mill. That is -- he's got a hundred mill. The Boss in 2009. What have you got? Oh, that vintage 1984 E-Street tour jersey that's going for $60 on eBay, which wouldn't be enough to cover this month's light bill? Hey, at least you know that at heart, Bruce understands.
