Well, maybe not all. Maybe just those emanating from local stations KKFI 90.1 and KCUR 89.3 during certain hours of the morning, but, hey, we're still excited.
First, set your alarm for 7 a.m. sharp and tune it to 90.1 KKFI community radio (make sure you flip the switch on your clock so that the radio comes on instead of the buzzer, though) and turn the volume all the way up: Pitch clubs editor and music gemologist Berry Anderson will pay a visit to host Bill O'Connor's Your Morning Buzz show to play musical selections by nominees up for trophies in our annual Pitch Music Awards. In addition to playing all that great local music, Berry will no doubt dispense important advice on how to survive the night's Pitch Music Showcase, raging in Westport from 8 p.m. until the bars close. Thanks for having us, Bill!
Next, don't leave your home -- don't even get out of bed -- but do touch that dial. Because starting at 10 a.m. on 89.3 KCUR public radio, on the famous Walt Bodine Show, yours truly, I, Jason Harper, music astrologist-to-the-stars, will be a featured guest. I won't be talking about the showcase, though, unless they allow me a shameless plug.
Instead, I've been given the honor of getting to talk to and with listeners about Bob Moczydlowsky's killer rock documentary 72 Musicians, which was shot over three days at the Record Bar. Also on the mic will be the man himself, Mr. Moczydlowsky, plus local rocker Billy Smith of the bands Roman Numerals and Olympic Size, both of which are featured in the movie (anonymously). I don't know that I've ever heard of Walt Bodine featuring local music so prominently for a whole hour, so please listen in and pick up the phone (but don't get out of bed) during the call-in portion. It's gonna be fun. Thanks for having us, Walt! We won't let you down.

Mike & Tom:
I totally understand your frustration. I don't know what guidelines the call screener works under, but knowing radio, those rules are bound to be strict. I assume they want to avoid people calling in who just want to publicize stuff. But, like I said, I don't know the rules.
What I'd like you to understand, though, is that the show is just a conversation, basically, and it was my first time doing it, and Billy's too, I think. About 15 dozen things came to my mind after I was off the air that I wish I'd said -- "local music" is just too broad a topic for one hour of conversation set in a super-broad context. I thought we'd be talking about 72 Musicians most of the hour. Instead, we ended up talking about things like gender roles and why people don't dance at shows more. KKFI was definitely not intentionally excluded by anyone who was on the air that hour. I wish I'd given a shout-out to Lawrence.com, too. My main point was that commercial media outlets don't cover local music enough.
I'm glad you guys commented because KKFI does do its part in local music. I've been a guest on the Local Showcase twice, and I am just as grateful to KKFI for having me on those times as I am to KCUR for yesterday's show, which, by the way, is archived here.

Now, did anyone catch Berry on Morning Buzz? I slept through it like a lame-o.
Even before reading Mike's comments, I was hugely disappointed with the Bodine show. You just can NOT credibly have a conversation about local music on the air in Kansas City and not mention 90.1 FM KKFI.
Take out the word "credibly" above, and that describes the KCUR conversation. KCUR and KKFI have now and have had amiable intersections of personalities and interests over the years that make this glaring failure all the more puzzling and disappointing.
I listened to Bodine this morning and with discussion of media support of the local music scene including Sonic Spectrum, the Pitch, the Kansas City Star, the Buzz, and more, KKFI was really conspicuous by its absence. 90.1FM KKFI Kansas City Community Radio is the one station that lives and breathes local music.
I tried calling in to correct the record, and was told by the call screener that I couldn't mention any organizations, as KCUR's airwaves could not be used for advertising. I pointed out that several stations were already mentioned, and he told me that he was going to get in trouble for it. I ultimately wasn't allowed to get through, and then heard the Pitch local music awards advertised extensively, as well as several local venues.
I appreciate this platform to help set the record straight and can't stress enough how much KKFI supports the local music scene. Most of the music programs feature local artists -- and check out Local Showcase on KKFI every Thursday from 8 to 10pm with a different host every week, each bringing their own perspective to the local scene.
nick davis: I demand you pull over and listen to the whole thing. Lolla can wait.
Nick: Sounds like a plan.
Good luck Harper!
We'll be in the car on the way to Lollapalooza, but I think we'll still have KCUR reception at 10. I'll be sure to listen.
