The Blind Eyes, The ACBs and Justin Ripley Are Coming. Be Afraid.

Okay, well, you should only be afraid if you hate good music and/or harmonies. Last night in St. Louis, the ACBs, Justin Ripley (and his merry crew of musicians) and the Blind Eyes made my power-pop-loving ears quite happy. The same trio will be burning up I-70 with a show at Mojo's in Columbia tonight and one in Lawrence at the Jackpot tomorrow night.

Kansas Citians know the first two acts well, of course. And at the show, the ACBs' harmonies were reliably spot-on, and Ripley's garage-pop jams sounded fantastic. But local-to-St. Louis trio the Blind Eyes is why I'm here hijacking the Wayward Son: The trio is one of the Gateway City's finest rock bands, a band which takes cues from Ted Leo, the Jam, Orange Juice and Elvis Costello. (Plus, the band members are also good people. And funny.) If you miss the band's Lawrence show, it's doing a Streetside Records in-store performance on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m.

Check out a hilarious interview I did for the Riverfront Times here-- you can find out all about drummer Matt Picker's childhood band, Satan's Wastebasket -- and some MP3s below. The band's latest CD, Modernity, is worth your ten-spot.

P.S. Ripley and the ACB's are a marriage made in indie heaven.
