New releases, Tuesday, August 11

George Strait releases Twang today, as well. Much as I want to like the man -- he's just so goddamn earnest -- I refuse to acknowledge anything he's done in anything other than a perfunctory manner due to his insistence on naming a track "Blue Clear Sky." The grammatical machinations inherent in that piece of work make my head ache. Just typing it caused me to grind my teeth for several minutes. It's "CLEAR BLUE," you ass hat! "Blue" modifying "clear" just doesn't work; the color is the thing being modified...argh.

Sorry. My English major tendencies have been pushed back, and I'm back to writing for the Internet again.

Cobra Starship's Hot Mess is getting tons of press because of the involvement of Gossip Girl's Leighton Meester. Still, it's yet more power-pop-punk from former Midtown frontman Gabe Saporta. Much as I want to despise this, any band who has the decency to admit "Pete Wentz Is the Only Reason We're Famous" and title a track "Wet Hot American Summer" gets points. However, I'm pretty sure that Cobra Starship and 3OH!3 are precisely the bands targeted by the "Fuck You & Your Neon Shirt" shirts being hocked at the Bridge 9 booth on Warped Tour this year.

Other than that, it appears there's sod all, aside from a series of vinyl reissues and box sets. Aside from Woodstock: 40 Years on: Back to Yasgur's Farm, a six disc box set that offers up scads of unreleased Woodstock performances, everything else is fairly unremarkable.

George Strait didn't write Blue Clear Sky, he just sang it. The reason it is blue clear sky (according to the writer)is because that is the way Forrest Gump said it in the movie.
