Tonight: Harlem at the Riot Room

Posted by Jason Harper on Mon, Aug 17, 2009 at 3:41 PM

Last night at the Pitch Music Awards VIP party, I accosted Ssion leader Cody Critcheloe, who was noshing meatballs and dispensing wisdom with every twitch of his snout, like an anthropomorphic aardvark wiseman. He introduced me to his friend Coomers (second from right in this photo) of the Austin, Texas, band Harlem, which, evidently, has recently signed a worldwide deal on prestigious indie label Matador Records. Harlem played the Replay last night and is playing tonight at the Riot Room with locals Wrong Crowd, Thee Fleshapoids and Modie Bones. I've only gotten a taste of the group's music online, but all signs are indicating that if you crave lo-fi, psychedelic garage punk sounds in the vein of Nuggets, this shit's for you.

I'll take that as a compliment, John Collins. However, I wasn't meaning to be snarky here with anything that I said, including the bit about the anteater, which was just, I don't know, random. I thought it was REALLY COOL (no snarkony) that Cody brought Harlem to the awards VIP party, and I was just trying to spread the word about their show. Anybody go?

Harper, you're so snarky anymore I can't tell when your being ironic or sarcastic or being ironic about sarcasm or sarcastic about irony. But whatever your editorial policy, its a winner(?)(!)(.)
