Bikers of all kinds, from weekend warriors to die-hards and one-percenters will come together September 20 to help make certain all babies are born healthy. The 15th Annual Kansas City Bikers for Babies, starts with thousands of riders meeting that Sunday at the Kansas Speedway, to set out on a 115-mile route to raise money for the March of Dimes.
Dee Snider, Twisted Sister frontman and Bikers for Babies national spokesperson, will be on hand to lead the ride with Johnny Dare of 98.9 The Rock, and honorary Bikers For Babies chairman.
Riders can pre-register for a $35 donation at the website above or attend a pre-registration event. There will also be registration at the Kansas Speedway the day of the event, starting at 8am, but will be $40 per person. Non-riders can show their support by watching and waving from safe areas along the route. Riders will depart Kansas Speedway, traveling south on I-435, then west on K-10. They will ride into downtown Eudora, pass through Perry-Lecompton, then take K-237 on the western side of Lake Perry and travel through Oskaloosa, McLouth, Tonganoxie and return to Kansas Speedway.
The event will continue at the Speedway with live music from Teacher'z Pet, as well as food and contests. Top donors get to do laps around the Speedway, as well.
Bikers for Babies began in 1995 with 130 riders raising $3,000. In 2008, nearly 6,000 participants raised more than $630,000, bringing the 14-year event total to $3.7 million raised for the March of Dimes in Kansas City. Funds raised by Bikers for Babies support local research grants focused on issues related to premature birth and community programs such as NICU Family Support at Saint Luke's Hospital and Overland Park Regional Medical Center.
