Enter to win your next band at the Brick's Band Scramble

Posted by Jason Harper on Tue, Sep 22, 2009 at 2:00 PM

Today through October 15, area musicians are invited to drop by the Brick (1722 McGee) and enter this year's Band Scramble. It'll cost ya $5, but that money goes into the cash-prize pot that bands will compete for at the Scramble's battle-of-the-bands climax (date TBA).

Here's how it works: Based on your instrument, you'll be randomly assigned to a band, and you'll have to write songs, rehearse, and get along for long enough to compete in the final battle. Hell, you might even go on to do real-band-type things, like Anvil Chorus (now Lights & Siren) and Silver Shore (R.I.P.) both did following the 2004 scramble.

It's been a while since the Brick's held a Scram -- the last recorded one was back in the blog dark ages, circa 2006. In a move that defined "flash in a pan," the magnesium-burnin' Iron Rainbow won, and Scramble organizer John Ferguson (who's not involved in putting together this year's) arranged an impromptu reunion of his old band, As Memphis Burns, to close the night.

So if you've ever participated in one, by all means, post a comment with some of your recollections.

If you've got questions, call Brick owner Sheri Parr at 816-421-1634.

I remember wearing "flashy tights," and my band fucking ruling and totally reigning supreme.
