Breaking News: Passion Pit has pulled out of show tonight at Beaumont.

Posted by Jason Harper on Thu, Oct 1, 2009 at 6:32 PM

We just received the news that Passion Pit, the headliner at tonight's free, KRBZ-sponsored show at the Back Yard at the Beaumont, has canceled its performance.

Printed announcements were tacked up, including the one below, which had an additional message scrawled on it.

At approximately 6 p.m., the band posted the following on Twitter:

Kansas, we are sorry we had to cancel tonights show at the Beaumont. A lighting rig almost took out our sound guy mark during load in, and the stage was about 5 minutes away from collapsing from dry rot. We apologize, and we owe you one.

We've received no word yet from the Beaumont or the show's organizers. The other bands on the bill -- Roman Numerals, Audiovox and Owl City -- appear to be performing as scheduled.

Can we get some snapshots of the dry rot?

Passion Pit once again canceled a show. This time "due to illness". They didn't make it very far before canceling another show. Completely outrageous if you ask me. The Seattle show was completely sold out and they claim to be finding another date where tickets will be honored (unlikely).

That "stage of death" was really fun! Thanks to The Buzz, Owl City, Audiovox and KC for a great night. Passion Pit came by recordBar earlier in the day and were nice guys and very distraught about the situation but that said, they should have played. I, for one, would really have liked to see them. I think Rhino said it right above. Just sayin'.

Hey Solange fan- she broke her toe not her ankle and that was inside the beaumont, not outside and unrelated to the stage and totally related to the ridiculously high heels she was wearing. you need to be redone. end of story.

Owl City was great!

I call bullshit too. I sure didn't see Passion Pit greeting fans in line, and I was in that line for a LONG time. I also don't buy for a second that 3 other bands would put their lives at risk to play on this supposed stage of death. They had a disagreement with the venue and they took it out on their fans. They're definitely not a big enough deal to pull a stunt like that. Fuck Passion Pit!

I don't know (or care) about Passion Pit but I fail to see how they are being primadonnas. They turned down a paying gig because they felt it wasn't a safe venue.
Why would they come all that way and then stick around to explian themselves if they were just stuck up their own asses.

I remember when Solange Knowles broke her ankle on the Beaumont stage. It needs to be redone. End of story.

My girlfriend, brother and sister-in-law where there ONLY to see Passion Pit and were very disappointed that they canceled. We left after listening to two or three Audiovox tracks. No offense to Audiovox, but either he or the sound guys seemed ultra-unprepared and unprofessional. You should have your cables and monitors tested before you walk out on stage. Not to mention that his entire performance seemed pretty close to karaoke. He actually stopped one song mid-stream to sort out some technical details. Ridiculous.

I'm not going to go so far as calling names, but this is absolutely a recurring theme for Passion Pit. I'm 40 and have seen tons of indie shows all over. I'm not aware of many (any) other bands that cancel shows like these guys do. All they need to do is add a little crappy attitude and you've got Oasis (in terms of their prima donna-ness). Earlier this year they canceled their originally postponed Canadian tour citing personal medical issues. They canceled their MusicFest NW Nike show and skipped Portland completely. They canceled all their May gigs in the UK citing "a personal situation at home." Are you guys pros or what? This is your job - your fans pay the bills. Try repeatedly calling in sick, tired or that your desk chair isn't suitable at a real job and you'll be on the street in a flash.

We didn't stick around to see Owl City because it was like pairing the latest pop-sensation with Cut Copy or something. No thanks. A better pairing for Passion Pit would have been someone like Black Kids or Hot Chip or Ra Ra Riot or Shout Out Louds or Ting Tings or Au Revoir Simone... Owl City should be opening up for David Cook.

My hope (and advice) for Passion Pit: get your personal lives ironed out and man up. There are a lot of people who love your music, but shit happens - lights fall - things break - accidents happen. Dust yourselves off and play the show. Don't forget who's paying your bills.

I was definitely bummed. I drove six hours for Passion Pit. It certainly pissed me off but atleast they did make an attempt to be sincere about it. I found it pretty fucked up that the Beaumont didn't make any widespread attempt to remediate things. Obviously the set/stage worked out fine so they should have done their best to not make both sides look bad. I highly doubt Passion Pit plans to make any attempt to schedule another show anytime soon. DAMNIT!!!

They (Passion Pit) were also looking for venues to move to their set to at the last minute, but to no avail.

Passion Pit weren't divas about it. They came around to the people standing in line and explained what happened. They even offered to take pictures and sign stuff. They were really sincere. The sound at the venue was pretty awful and there were a bunch of tweens there. Overall, I was really really bummed.

Owl City was great! Audiovox was a band I hadn't heard before and i thought they were solid. Passion Pit fucked up... there were thousands of people out there and no one cared they weren't playing. i didn't hear one complaint. They probably could have gained some new fans.

Dear Passion Pit,
You should add a tiny shovel to your rider so you can dig all that sand out of your vagina.

I, for one, am not surprised by this. Beaumont's stage is AWFUL. If it is the same one they had for Miike Snow, I don't blame Passion Pit at all. The sound system is pathetic as well.

If the stage outside the Beaumont collapses tonight, I will eat my words, but it really sounds like a case of big-headedness.

Which is unfortunate in a year when Phoenix blessed KC with their own amazing FREE show and a much better album.

I'd definitely like to hear the Beaumont's side of this.

F that. They didn't even know the state. We're KC, MO.

That's shitty. At least they still know what state they were supposed to play in.
