Photos: Tortoise @ Beaumont

Posted by Jason Harper on Thu, Oct 1, 2009 at 3:34 PM

What is music but people and machines making sound?

Last night Chicago art-rock band Tortoise played the Beaumont in support of its new album, Beacons of Ancestorship, out now on Thrill Jockey. Prefuse 73 opened. In the array of shots that photographer Forester Michael got, there was an interesting -- and rather remarkable -- dichotomy between man and machine. So we decided to make two slide shows. Click the photos below to get going. (There's more at Forester's Flickr.)

Flesh and steel, baby.

Shameless plug: Forester would have you know that he's hosting pop culture trivia tonight at the Record Bar at 10 p.m. It's part of a trivia double header, with regular trivia beginning at 7 p.m. and hosted by Pat Hopewell. Two hosts, two games, two pots of money...and lots of knowitalls.
