Too Long For A Mixtape

Any list that puts NOFX's "The Decline" back to back with "Society Is A Carnivorous Flower" by J Church gets a hearty thumbs up from me. The AV Club put together a list of 42 songs longer than ten minutes worth your time, entitled "Alice's Restaurant doesn't live here."

Also epic.

Needless to say, the Arlo Guthrie Thanksgiving staple does not make an appearance on this list. However, the aforementioned songs do, along with track from Television, Shellac, Kraftwerk, and the Sugarhill Gang.

Honestly, this list could have been longer than the arbitrary 42, allowing it to include something like Fucked Up's 18 minute epic "Year of the Pig." Any other songs they left off the list you feel worthy of inclusion?

OH shit, this rules. This is a refreshing break from all the awful we're-the-new-musical-zeitgeist-and-there's-nothing-you-can-do-about-it self importance of Pitchfork's best of the decade lists. Good to see "The Decline" getting some love! Still think that's far and away the best thing NOFX ever did.
