Even though Friday Freebies this week was a great big bust, that doesn't mean there's not a bunch of cool events at which to make an appearance. Here are a couple shows we've neglected to clue you in to, and which deserve your consideration for a night out.
First up is Popfreeradio's Third Birthday Party. It takes over the Riot Room tomorrow night, October 17, starting at 6pm. The show is STACKED. I'd list all the bands, but the folks over at Popfreeradio (providing you with music that doesn't suck, online 24-7) created a fantastic flier I'd be remiss in not sharing:
How amazing is that show? Punk, metal, hip-hop, power-pop...all your musical needs are filled, with a headlining set from That Handsome Devil. If you want to get your knowledge regarding these acts up a little bit, head on over to this page, where you can download some tunes from acts playing tomorrow night.
If you're in Lawrence tomorrow night, we'd also recommend checking out Mirah at the Jackpot. She's playing with Norfolk & Western, and Lawrence's own Arthur Dodge opens, playing solo. Her voice is as pretty as they get, and this is going to be one of those shows that you skip and end up regretting later on. Wayward Blog concert reviewer Ian Hrabe has a blog called Why Are There So Many Records In My Life?, and he recently put up reviews of both Advisory Committee and C'Mon Miracle, either of which should be enough to convince you to go.
Listen to some of Mirah's music over at her K Records media page.
Showing 1-3 of 3
Tommy Ramone's been through town before, Freddie. http://bit.ly/2jAODv
And no disrespect to any of the players, but it seems like Clyne and his band come through quite often.
yeah,
roger clyne and the peacemakers (former refreshments lead singer and drummer-you know the songs;banditos, down together, toe chain,etc..) is playing knuckleheads tomorrow night oct. 17 WITH TOMMY RAMONE(you know, formerly of THE RAMONES) the fact that this show got NO PRESS and NO MENTIONS is pretty fucking pathetic and shows just how UNHIP the Pitch and others are!!!!!!!!!!!
i guess there is always another shitty indie band to write about or someone else who relies on gimmicks or swagger for their brief flavor of the month careers.
