As Harper put it so eloquently in the e-mail he forwarded to me concerning the band, "Right. 'Pants Yell.' Of course." Honestly, how else to respond to what might be the most random band name I've ever heard? Their PR firm describes the name as "misleadingly emphatic (and eternally mysterious)."
True. But what of the music?
Well, Pants Yell! is gently strummed, quietly melodic indie pop. It sounds a lot like the Belle & Sebastian without Isobel Campbell, actually. It's the sort of thing listened to by young men who favor button-up sweaters and horn-rimmed glasses, or young women in zip-up hoodies and peasant skirts.
