Remember that flurry of hip-hop shows last weekend? It's surprising that more multimedia didn't wash up from that (or maybe we just missed it), but here's a nice slice. It's a live MP3 of MC Reach performing Mouth, the band which, you'll remember, set up a night of live-instrument-backed hip-hop at the Scion Lab last Friday -- and did a good job promoting it. Before and after.
MP3: Reach, "Radio Love (feat. Mouth)" Live
Sounds like Mouth is on some Medeski, Martin & Wood + wah-guitar shit. Not sure how I feel about that, but it does sound good with a top-caliber rapper like Reach on board.

Hey Jeremy -- sorry, I totally fell off the comment train for a few days.
Thanks for engaging with me even though I can be a snarky bastard.
Long live The Rockford Files!
Thanks for the post, Jason. I appreciate the kind words as well as your honest opinion and constructive criticisms; that's what music blogs are for.
Anyway, the wah effect on that song was to simulate the synth swell on the original. I do use a wah pedal all the time, though. Actually we play one tune that was specifically written as a pastiche of '70s cop shows. It was written as a theme for a short film a friend of mine made about a cop. From the '70s.
Also, we never qualify the band name with "the band." The reason our MySpace and email address are "abandcalledmouth" is because "mouth" by itself was taken.
We're playing with Reach again on Friday, December 18th at the Beaumont Club, along with SeedLove and some other special guests TBA.
No, this is negative punctuation:
:(
And I didn't use any of that.
Seriously, though, I'm just being honest. Wah guitar has its place -- and that is in 1970s cop dramas. Take it or leave it; it's just my opinion. While I'm on it, I'm not sure how I feel about the band name Mouth. If you have to qualify your band name with the phrase "the band" every time you talk about it, maybe it's time to rethink things.
All that aside, I do want to see Mouth (the band) soon. Jeremy seems like a very nice dude, and they've done a great job promoting, hence the THREE blog posts we've now done about this ONE show.
This blurb is a classic example as to why the Pitch is terrible; Jason Harper can't even write a paragraph highlighting something without negative punctuation. Thanks for reminding me why I love the breadth of the internet: there are alternatives to finding out about local things that aren't lathered in valueless snark.
