Incoming: Alice In Chains at the Midland, February 21

Posted by Nick Spacek on Thu, Dec 3, 2009 at 2:00 PM

David Sedaris tells a story in his book, Me Talk Pretty One Day, about his brother Paul, who calls himself the Rooster. Paul Sedaris' philosophy is as follows:

"Certain motherfuckers think they can fuck with my shit, but you can't kill the Rooster. You might can fuck him up sometimes, but, bitch, nobody kills the motherfucking Rooster. You know what I'm saying?"

Now, I'm sure I'm not the only person who listened to "alternative" radio in the '90s who read that and went, "Wait, what? There's a guy taking his life philosophy from a song by Alice In Chains?"

Here they come to snuff the rooster, aww yeah

Yeah here come the rooster, yeah

You know he ain't gonna die

No, no, no ya know he ain't gonna die

I'd always seen it as a Vietnam allegory, but there are people out there who manage to craft religions around Star Wars, so I oughtn't be surprised.

Alice In Chains are touring in support of their new album, Black Gives Way to Blue. Tickets go on sale this Friday, December 4 at 10:00 a.m.

We try to limit ourselves to one "Incoming" a day. Rest assured, we're aware.
