Tonight: Living Sacrifice at El Torreon

Posted by Nick Spacek on Fri, Feb 12, 2010 at 9:00 AM

El Torreon tonight is going to be hardcore paradise when "The Abominable Snowtour" hits. It's kind of a Christian hardcore show, as Living Sacrifice is headlining, and they're definitely a Christian act.

Come to think of it, so War Of Ages, Lionheart, and the Great Commission. Shai Hulud has Christian members, but doesn't identify as a "Christian band."

Whatever -- faith and beliefs aside, these bands are all equally brutal. The male-female vocals from the Great Commission make their songs sound like like a domestic dispute set to drop-D riffs. Thankfully, this is metalcore that's heavy on breakdowns and guttural vocals, not the screamo variety. El Torreon's again playing host to some great hardcore shows that might fly under your radar, so keep an eye out for some mosh-worthy acts coming through in the future.

I was at one of the shows on that tour. I think Truth Cell opened the Lawrence date. Fantastically fun.

Shai Hulud is fucking rad. Saw them open for Andrew WK way back when. Their drummer has a prosthetic leg.
