Scott Weiland left his bandmates in Velvet Revolver to rejoin with the gents who made him famous, thus ensuring an even greater payday for himself. I'm not saying it's misplaced nostalgia, but has anyone really been screaming for Stone Temple Pilots to get back together again?
Evidently, someone decided we'd all like to hear "Plush" and "Interstate Love Song" played live again, and that opportunity hits Kansas City on Monday, March 22 at the Midland By AMC.
Hopefully, Weiland's finally kicked that pesky little heroin problem, so that this reunion -- which is supposed to be of the "we're back together for good" variety, complete with a new album later this year -- so that this tour doesn't go down the tubes as oh-so-many others have.

Speaking for myself, I love this band and was always disappointed in Scott's troubles and the few breaks and breakups of this band. As far as any band who considers them an influence, I as a musician do, but do so delicately. Journey wrote a lot of hits too, were a powerhouse pop music band and all through the post Journey Frontiers era, you had band after band, industry execs, trying to reproduce that epic sound with a lot of mediocre spin-offs and embarassing copies. To be influenced by and to mimic are two different things. I have every STP album, and my favorites, No. 4 and Shangri La Dee Da don't even register to a lot of STP fans and the music industry. I've come to understand that you can't copy this band. They are entirely unique and the writing of the De Leo brothers shined as well in Talk Show and Army of Anyone in like fashion. I disagree with the premise that no one is clamouring for an STP reunion. Theirs is a cult following, much like with Alice in Chains and Soundgarden, and those who know STP, love STP or respect STP still have a silent or infectious curiosity about what they will do next. The band that wrote songs like Plush evolved under the radar with No.4 and Shangri La Dee Da -and why is due to the changing music scene, rap, hip hop and shitty pop music- but they did evolve. I look forward to it, and consider your comments quite unobjective, when music, like art, like the artists are vast and expansive. To conclude, you don't care, but I dont care that you don't. I can't wait to hear more and wish them the best of luck, and I hope fans and those who haven't listened to STP's last two albums to check them out. You can't copy originality, so why try. An STP influenced band would suck just as much as Kingdom Come did. They would claim originality, while lifting entire phrases from the root, and come off big for a minute until people realized they miss the real thing. Go STP
Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop is looked at by many of STP's fans as their finest and most eclectic album. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion of course--I can't stand Radiohead, but I respect them for their integrity as musicians. You could at least do the same for STP.
wow, really breaking some new ground talking about scott's heroin problems. Like no one knows.
And yeah STP is def one of the better bands of the last 20 years and every song is great. Not just the "hit"
The tirade would've been longer, but the world doesn't really need a two-page screed on Songs From the Vatican Gift Shop, especially regarding how the chord progression in "Big Bang Baby" is a total lift of the Kinks' "Picture Book."
You lost all credibility in the first paragraph when you said "but has anyone really been screaming for Stone Temple Pilots to get back together again?"
Reading the article all together shows you have no real knowledge of STP. The only things you actually mentioned were Plush, Interstate Love Song, and Weiland's heroin issues. Anyone who watched MTV in the 90's has the same if not a higher knowledge of STP as you.
Do some research before you go on a little two paragraph tirade next time.
Why are they immediately suspect? Have you listened to STP's albums?
STP:'90s rock::BTO:'70s rock
Enough singles to ensure they'll be on the radio ad infinitum, but any band claiming them as an influence is immediately suspect.
This article almost implies that STP was just some disposable band that few cared about, which is absurd. All throughout Velvet Revolver's uninspiring tenure, widespread fans and critics clamored for an STP reunion, and thankfully, we now have one.
I'm no fanboy, but STP is definitely one of the most successful and diverse bands of the past 20 years, and one of the few bands that achieved commercial success while maintaining integrity in their music and lyrics.
Reading this was like a nostalgia trip, personally. By this, I mean you and thousands of other journalists have written the same thing about Scott Weiland. If I want to read a pathetic excuse for, well I don't even know what you'd like to call this little 3 paragraph excerpt, then I'll get on Google and Type in STP 1994!!!!
Nostalgia my ass.
I wish I could get paid to copy and paste ideas.
