Whereas Kansas City's Craigslist Rant and Rave section seems to be devoted to nothing but random things like "Titty Tuesday" (which is exactly what you think it is), Lawrence's Rants and Raves are a bit more music-centric.
Specifically, the past couple of weeks have been devoted to two subjects that haven't even managed to branch out to Facebook. You've got folks up in arms over two seemingly disparate topics -- namely, whether straight DJs should be playing what are euphemistically referred to as "pride" or "family" nights at clubs, as well as alleged patron abuse at Fatso's.
The pride-night allegations originated in this post, which provides a history of the various pride-night DJs at Wilde's Chateau 24 in Lawrence. Unfortunately, the debate seems to have stopped shortly after that, going no further than a couple of comments regarding the skills of DJ Transit, before descending into gay-bashing. Former pride night DJ ChefNguyen weighed in and seems to have put a stop to everything.
That was just in time for the Fatso's allegations to be levelled in this lengthy post, which alleges (among other things) being sprayed with a can of air freshener by an employee, and an attempted attack with a beer bottle.
These two topics of DJs and Fatso's have now combined into a discussion as to whether Fatso's DJ, DJ Parle, is worth a shit. It might not be legitimate, and it might not be substantiated, but there's certainly a part of the area's musical culture that most of us aren't aware of that has a voice here.

Night Life is about a money grab. Sometimes its fun, sometimes not. If you don't fit what some joint wants - expect an excuse to be annoyed or thrown out.

I just got amazingingingingly drunk drinking 24oz of fancy beer, and it motivated me to even write this. Am I a sucker? Probably.
#1 Don't spray patrons with air freshener. Politely ask them to leave.
#2 Smelly azz hippies should check their stank at the door. Isn't patchouli supposed to cover their stank?
#3 If you get sprayed by air freshener call the authorities and dont run into the bathroom and start trashing the place as you will incur the wrath of the managment or staff.
#4 If you are unjustly treated you have 2 options. Be level headed about it, complain/file a report or act like dumbazzes, escalate the situation and get knocked out.
#5 If you complain that you heard that barstaff at fatsos use drugs and want to complain about it you have no credability if you visit freestate brewery, the bottleneck, replay lounge, granada, or any other establishment in a college town.
Oh man this is some comical shit.
Getting sprayed with air-freshener is fucked up, and I can see some idiot frat-bro bouncer doing that to some stinky hippies (i'm assuming they were stinky hippies).
I'm gonna call bullshit on Gavin (the owner) trying to hit someone with a beer bottle though. Regardless of Fatso's clientele and its employees, I've dealt with Gavin a number of times and his main concern is his business, which could quickly be shut down if he actually tried to assault a patron with a beer bottle, not to mention the whole going to jail part of it.
The hippies were probably mad they were sprayed with air-freshener so they are attempting to blow the situation up into something bigger than it was.
Main lesson from this, wear deodorant and this won't happen to you haha
My girlfriend ran into one of the girls who was assaulted at Fatsos, so I got this story relayed to me. My first thought: That's not really surprising. That place is, effectively, douchebag city from the clientele to the people who work there and mannnnnn, someone should press some goddamned charges because, you know, spraying air freshener on people is pretty much like Mace Jr (NO, not Lil' Romeo...or was it MA$E).
