Janelle Monae, "Tightrope"

Posted by Nick Spacek on Thu, Apr 1, 2010 at 12:00 PM

Despite the fact that Janelle Monae doesn't ever seem to play Kansas City, she's from here, and we love her. Her music is soul, funk, and danceable as hell. If she doesn't make you want to bust a move like James Brown, we feel sorry for you. Her new album, The ArchAndroid hits stores on May 18. We expect there to be lines all over KC when stores open that Tuesday.

The critics on Sound Opinions on raved about this album and I wondered: "How good can this album really be?" So I got it. It must have been difficult for Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot to figure out what adjectives to use just to describe how PHENOMENAL this album is. Janelle Monae may not be for everyone but there truly is no denying that this is a masterpiece. I have trouble making it through entire albums because I'll get a little bored with them. But this one ... I love listening to it from start to finish!
