To quote Ryan Marchman of the Federation of Horsepower: "It's a messed up world when Ozzy Osbourne outlives Ronnie James Dio. What the hell is up with that?"

Indeed, Ronnie James Dio, the former frontman of Black Sabbath and (obviously) Dio passed away today at 7:45 a.m. His widow, Wendy Dio, posted the following message to his website:

Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45am 16th May. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes before he peacefully passed away. Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all. We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us. Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss. Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever.

Making the whole thing terrible for all of Dio's fans was the fact that the news spread across Twitter and Facebook, and was debunked, only to be confirmed later.

Ronnie, you where hungry for heaven...so please look down on your star to us and know you left us with great music and memories.

R.I.P. legend, frontman, but most off all an role model to everyone who loves metal.

All the best for Wendy, family and frends to carry this lost.
