Phelps and Co. to protest Dio funeral

While we hate having to give the Westboro Baptist Church any further press, the following quote regarding the church's upcoming protest at Ronnie James Dio's funeral gave us pause:

WBC to picket this public memorial to remind you who worship that old Serpent, Satan, that your time is very short. You know 67 year old, Satan-worshiping (or at least one of their enablers) Ronnie James Dio (of showing his devil horns to the world each time he goes in public) Black Sabbath fame is dead, right?

Yep -- it just goes to show you that if you engage in occult activities, you'll die before your time.

So, look out, Ozzy Osbourne (61), Jimmy Page (66), Bruce Dickinson (51), Eric Bloom (65), Alice Cooper (62), and Gene Simmons (60) -- your days are numbered!

How about this? None of these gods are real. They're all just manifestations of the human mind to explain things that can't be rationally explained by superstitious people. Dio was an influential rocker who made a lasting impact on the world he lived in. I'm pretty sure he did more good as someone with two fingers in the air, than the Westboro church and all their picket signs.

RIP Dio. It makes me sick people protesting a funeral, a time of mourning for family and friends, and a time to celebrate a life, and they spew their vile, abhorent hate-filled message. Look in the mirror you disgusting group, you protest what you believe is wrong in the eyes of your "God" and yet you are no better than those you protest against. And you should be thankful you live in the US where you are protected under the Constitution and have a voice to do such disgusting acts. Think about that and realize that same constitution protects all religious beliefs whether you think them right or wrong. Would you be willing to lose those rights? No? Then don't take them from someone else. If there were a God I am sure he/she/it would burn you in hell for your deplorable hatred, not Dio who only did his thing and left it for us to decide whether we want to listen to it or not. Again, rest well Dio, you will be missed and live on in all your fans.

Okay, well, the Westboro Baptist Church broke one of God's commandments. Know which one? Doesn't one of the commandments say something like "DO NOT JUDGE LEST BE JUDGED BY OTHERS?" Or something like that. They are saying Ronnie James Dio is residding in hell (pardon my spelling). Okay, them saying that, aren't they trying to pass judgement by saying that? That's what it sounds like to me. And this church, if you want to call it a church, why preach hatred from a church? If it's a TRUE church, hatred is not preached. And God does not hate, God will approve or disapprove of the life of us mortals. The Westboro Baptist church is up there with the Heaven's Gate, the Guyana Tragedy, the Waco incident, the concentration camp of Hitler, and the Westboro Baptist church is acting like they're some kind of a prophet by preaching hate. Doesn't it also say something in the bible "DO NOT WORSHIP FALSE PROPHETS." Well, get the point. The one word that describes the Westboro Baptist church, "RELIGIOUS FANATICISM." Very dangerous because there are those who will follow these clowns and they will act out against those who oppose them. Very sich people these Westboro Baptist church idiots are.

The whole world is fearing for the extreme Islamic people but what we should fear more is extreme Christianity. They say that rock artists are violent and demonic but they're the ones that hurt people!
The devil was only invented to frighten people and sadly it's working to! How on earth can you believe in an ugly face with horns, goat legs and a pointy tail??? This is a big proof that it started out as a cult. Just look at how they treated people in the old days when they didn't believe. And how about all these "important and high placed" people who they had to give their money to, something that still happens. Just look at all the wealth the pope is living in!
Those STUPID Phelps want to protest against Dio's funeral because they think that only because he's a rock singer and did the two finger sign that he worshiped the devil. First of all, I read, a long time ago that the hand sign meant "rock/metal" to him and I've heard from many people that he was the most friendly and gentle person on this planet!
I feel sorry for the religious people who want to do good in this world. I know they mean well and don't agree with these insane groups.
What a nerve to say that he died young because he was a rocker and therefore worshiped the devil and other rock artists should watch out for the same thing. Do Christians or other religious people for that matter never die young? Their vision is so black and white that they lost all reality.
Too much religion is bad for the soul!
Hussein called the STUPID Phelps "Christian Taliban" and I couldn't have said it better!

I am not sure i can believe that people will actually follow the fallen angel (satan) however if they do or if they like to refer to themselves as satanists . I do not honestly believe that they have the right idea in regards to what satan actually is and stands for.
There is more than likely an idolised version behind any ideas of worship. I would hazard a guess at - a strong leader , a certain amount of power that is unlimited by the boundaries of absolute good. I doubt many of the people calling themselves satan followers would be truly evil as he is meant to be. Hate alone is a strong word, there is rather a large jump between this and evil.I visualise evil not as something appealing but something detremental to all even those on that side.
Something worse than the nazi ,belson camp. Then throw in some aztec sacrifices, and give yourself the ability to kill the ones you love. As true evil cares for nothing.

Thankfully i am not evil and am unable to not care for the quality of music that came from Dio. #

I included a small almost letter i suppose to Dio's wife in my tribute. As the press can be so utterly inconsiderate sometimes , although we can not nor will not be able to change this. Ill leave the link in the url bit 4 ya hope its liked i am planning a few extras too.

If they want to preach their "holy" gospel, they should not annoy the family of a great man who deserves respect. Why don't they preach with the acts of their hearts? That is because it seems to be that their hearts are just crucibles of hatred and rancor. They are not disciples of Christ. They are stupid creatures that were attacked by their own inner demoniac forces up to point of forsaking the the realm of the reasonable. They are victims of an infamous fanaticism that has enslaved their will and sickened their souls. I just want to witness the horror in their surprised faces after being counted among the goats before God. Remember that the day of the Judgment will come even for you and God will examine your hearts. Thus, DO NOT be surprised if God says: I knew DIO. And then God will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!' Matthew 7:23

I support your personal ideas of faith even though I dont agree with you. I fail to see where patience and tolerance of other people comes into play here. And you arent a rocker and know nothing about its culture and its not your place.........so please stick with what you know. All of us want you to have the right to say anything you want, we expect the same consideration. You are a man with flaws and shortcomings like the rest of us....Im not interested in pointing out where you fail....its absolutely a case of worrying about the plank in your own eye and not the splinter in your neighbors my brother.

Does this church know 100% if Ronnie James Doi took Christ as his savor and asked for forgiveness? If he did then this church has no right protesting his funeral because if he did take Christ as his savor God and his Son have already welcomed him with open arms...And one last thing to say the church is very hypicritical the bible says, love the sinner but hate the sin. I think this church needs to go back and read the bible again!!!

This is a dumb idea by Phelps and Company. It usually is, but in this case you're dealing with an entire different group of people. I hope the idiots have finally met their match. You don't mess with metalheads. This will get a little violent.

I agree with Phelps' right for free speech (technically). I also agree (in this situation) that it would be ok for one of those brutal metal guys (like the ones you see in a Slayer mosh pit) to spend a night in jail in exchange for giving ol' Fred a black eye or two.

Or start a mosh pit in the middle of the protesters' area. It's still legal to 'dance' right? IT'S OUR GOD GIVEN RIGHT TO DANCE!

Or just have Slayer set up and blast those fools back to Topeka.

I want to speak to all those Christians who think it is their right to judge Ronnie James Dio as ungodly.

Firstly, read your Bible's the book of Acts declares "All men have sinned and have fallen short of the Glory of God." That includes every Christian on the planet. So before you decide to be self righteous and condemn Ronnie he was just the same as everyone of you, a sinner before God.

Secondly, you should not forget your place, it is for God to judge people not humans. So why don't you stop playing God.

Thirdly, you forget Ronnie James Dio was merely employed in the entertainments business. When he performed it was theatre not reality. Like many actors made their entire careers out of playing Baddies away from the stage they were fine people. Do you think they are Satans followers because of the parts they played..absolute nonsense.

Away from the limelight Ronnie James Dio was probably a loving family man, who loved his wife and children. He also was involved in orgainising the "Hearin Aid" Charity to raise money for African people in great need. Does this sound like a Satanic man?

Im a Christian myself and hey respect the man who gave much and helped many. He did more for many people that many Christian did, thats a fact. So hey you so called phoney Christians get this Christ had compassion and had love, for Ronnie never forget that! God's love cannot be measured or limited by hatefull Christians who will never have Dio's talent.

So hey folks when you go to your maker remember its God who will judge you not humans like yourselves.

If any of these people who come up with this silly crap actually put their energy toward helping people (as Christ taught) the world would be a better place.
Imagine if they all marched down to a homeless shelter and served food, counseled, held a hand, and clothed (as Christ did) instead of this incredible waste of time.

Ronnie's life and deeds speak volumes about the kind of man he was. If people are so ignorant and narrow-minded as to believe his songs, which were morality plays about good and evil, had anything to do with promoting Satanism, they are delusional. The man was not a believer in God, but he was a believer in mankind. Secular humanism is a sin to some "believers" because they are intolerant and ignorant. As for the horns symbol, Ronnie never promoted this as a sign of the devil. It was a cultural symbol from his Italian heritage, that his grandmother, who was in all likelihood a good Catholic, used to ward off evil. I'm a lapsed Catholic myself, but if there is a God up there judging our acts, I think he'd judge Ronnie as far worthier of heaven than these ignorant savages masquerading as Christians.

Jeff, I doubt very seriously Dan was trying to personally draw you to Christ, please stop being so vain. The Holy Spirit draws you to Christ, as well as a personal conviction that each person has to experience for themselves.

While I doubt very seriously Dio was a follower of Satan, and although I'm a Christian, I refuse to judge Dio the man, as there is one greater that holds that power. For his soul and his family I pray for peace and comfort during these difficult times.

Dan: always nice to know there are supporters of reason from all religions and regions. but please let go of the idea that you're going to "draw people to christ" at all. we all know it is out of love that most christians want to convert people, but at the end of the day it is insulting. insulting to people who are satisfied with their lives and moral persuasions without religion, insulting to our intelligence. everyone knows about jesus and christianity. if they want to convert, they will. leave non-religious people alone. especially me.

Jesus Christ said that men will be judged for there fruit (anotherwards what they did for the kingdom of God). I am a christian, and I am so sorry that Ronnie's family has to be subjected to such cold hearted ignorance of these "so-called" christians.
How can we as "christians" draw people to Christ with such cruel and condemning acts of cruelty as these people plan to exhibit at Ronnie's funeral. For God sake let the man rest in peace, have some compassion on his family....God said that we would be judged by the manner we judge others.
