Portland-based schizo Americana outfit Blitzen Trapper plays the Record Bar in a few weeks, on Tuesday,

June 22. In the meantime, you can stream their latest, Destroyer of the Void (out June 8 on Sub Pop) over at NPR. Or if

you want it for your iPod, you can download "Dragon's Song," a track from Void, plus an exclusive demo, at the

band's website.

A few runs through Void

yield the usual Blitzen Trapper returns: weirdo twang, stacked harmonies, one

folk ditty for every art-rock stomp, a hodgepodge of 1970s sounds the band expertly molds into something uniquely its own. If you liked these guys before, there's little on the new album that should

change your mind. If you liked them just okay, but thought their arrangements weren't theatrical enough, well, this is the album for you, because there's clear echoes of Jethro Tull, Queen, and Hunky Dory-era Bowie on this thing.
