When J. Mascis ousted him from
Dinosaur Jr.,
Lou Barlow packed up his bass and returned to his side project,
Sebadoh, where he pioneered a tuneful, lo-fi, acoustic sound that you don't have to search very hard to hear in much of today's indie-rock milieu. He's touring solo right now, in support of 2009's
Goodnight Unknown, and tonight he's at RecordBar. Local songwriter
David Seume, who opens, should complement Barlow nicely.
Talib Kweli made his name through
Black Star, his short-lived conscious hip-hop collaboration with
Mos Def. Mos Def is the household name these days, but Kweli's solo stuff
has often been outstanding, and tonight he's at the Midland with
Hi-Tek,
U-N-I, and local boys
Les Izmore and
Deep Thinkers.
Also: French Horn Rebellion at Czar Bar, with Heroes and Villains. And Ben Summers, of the Grisly Hand, plays a solo set at the Brick.
What else?
