You need inspiration? We got inspiration after the jump.

Scaggs. "Georgia." Live in Japan. 1985. He hits almost all of the high notes.

Surely you are familiar with Donald Fagen's 1982 solo album, The Nightfly? Most music nerds know how good that LP is, but I wasn't until recently aware of the weirdly literal video for "New Frontier." The clowns at Warner Bros. have lamely disabled the embed, so you'll have to click here to watch it. Um. You should really watch it.

We close today with Patti Labelle's 1986 classic "On My Own," in which Michael McDonald enjoys prominent billing and blasts through his vocal -- and acting -- duties with all the passion and class we've come to associate with the man.

I think the best yacht rock video is SCTV's Rick Moranis as Michael McDonald racing to the studio to sing his background vocals on Christopher Cross' "Ride Like the Wind."
