Prizzy Prizzy Please, Rooftop Vigilantes, Sons of Great Dane, Overstep: Wednesday's Best Bets

Chicago's Prizzy Prizzy Please, tonight at the Replay.
  • Chicago's Prizzy Prizzy Please, tonight at the Replay.

In Lawrence, Chicago's Prizzy Prizzy Please are at the Replay with Ooh Barracuda and Rooftop Vigilantes, and if there is one thing you can count on here at the Wayward Blog, it is that if Rooftop Vigilantes are playing a show in town, WE WILL RECOMMEND IT. This one seems especially promising, though: Prizzy plays a riotous, sans-guitar, pro-saxophone version of punk rock that calls to mind Fugazi and Van Halen in equal measure.

In KC, at the Riot Room, it's Overstep, Sons of Great Dane, and Walking Oceans, which is NOT a Toad the Wet Sprocket cover band.

Rev. Meredith Sullivan gets 16 months in prison for trading sex for Section 8 housing help

The Rev. Meredith Sullivan pleaded guilty to swapping sex for low-income housing help.
  • The Rev. Meredith Sullivan pleaded guilty to swapping sex for low-income housing help.

Swapping Section 8 housing help for sexual favors is pretty gross. It's even grosser when it's a man of God doing it.

The Rev. Meredith F. Sullivan admitted in February that he'd bumped people up the waiting list for Section 8 housing and lied to HUD about tenant income and household compositions in exchange for sex (or the promise of sex) from residents at the Sycamore Grove Apartments (2920 East 17th Street), which he managed, from June 1, 2004, to July 1, 2009.

Baby, you can't drive this car. But we can dream.
  • Baby, you can't drive this car. But we can dream.

Car aficionados made their way to 46th and Oak for the Kansas City Art Institute's Art of the Car Concours on Sunday. Vintage automobiles, motorcycles, race cars and trucks from eight states were lined up at KCAI's campus grounds.

According to KC Studio, the Art of the Car Concours is the largest vintage car show in the city. Big shot cars like President Woodrow Wilson's 1919 Pierce-Arrow Limousine and Bobby Darin's DiDia 150 were on display.

Pitch photographer Emily Henson was at the event, snapping pictures of the classic vehicles on display. You can see more in this slideshow.

James Holmes
Baker and restaurateur James Holmes wants people to know something. He did not choose to move his business, Napoleon Bakery, out of Westport. He had to. "I loved that location," he says. "But my bread oven stopped working, and then the ice machine and two other machines. It was a perfect storm of disasters. When I said something to my landlords, they told me, 'Look at your lease.' I was responsible for paying for all equipment repairs. But those expenses would have bankrupted the business."

Fred P. Ott's has decent accommodations for urinating

IMG_1152.jpg

Fred P. Ott's on the Plaza occasionally hosts rock shows, or at least it used to, and anyway it's a great joint for drinking and carousing and puffing cigs on the patio. Last night at Ott's, I spotted a handful of local musicians, and Sonic Spectrum music guru Robert Moore was hosting a general trivia night. That's enough to qualify it for a Where We Pee post, methinks. And we're off!

The top five gay foods

The banana: under protest from the Westboro Baptist Church.
Warning: The consumption of these five foods is not guaranteed to turn a heterosexual into a homosexual. Unlike, of course, those other cultural phenomena known to do just that, like listening to Barbra Streisand albums, watching a Will & Grace marathon, attending Gay Pride festivals (and sporting a tasteful rainbow flag pin) or unwittingly signing up for The Homosexual Agenda.

But what makes these foods gay?

Why won't ESPN The Magazine release the Dwayne Bowe tapes? Because he named names

ESPN The Magazine is protecting Dwayne Bowe from saying too much.
  • ESPN The Magazine is protecting Dwayne Bowe from saying too much.

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe and ESPN The Magazine are deadlocked and neither is budging. ESPN stands by its interview with Bowe in which he

claimed his teammates used social networking to import NFL groupies

while on the road.

Bowe claims he was misquoted (but he's also claimed the interview never happened). How he could be misquoted in an interview that didn't take place, well, you'll have to ask him.

ESPN The Magazine's editor told me that he has a tape of the interview, and he'd be happy to play it for Bowe. But why is he sitting on the audio. There's a really good reason: Bowe named names.
