Jordan Geiger has made some friends in France.
How did it come about that this label wanted to re-release "Oh, Ramona"?
I met some people at Kutu Folk while I was touring with Shearwater in France, and we really hit it off. Then they contacted me about contributing to this book they were putting together, where artists they liked each got a page or two to write or draw or do whatever they wanted. The book hasn't come out yet, but all their releases are CDs in a triple-gatefold sleeve, made from paper stitched together with thread, and usually with multiple inserts. I was really excited that they take such care to make their releases special and robust in terms of art. Which is one of the reasons I love Graveface.
So it'll be released just in France, then?
Yes, they're licensing it for France only. The music will be exactly the same, but the artwork will be totally different than the U.S. version. And included in the packaging, there will be a link to download bonus tracks. I'm not a fan of throwing bonus tracks on albums, so this is my way of offering bonuses.
Will Kutu Folk hook you up with some European tour dates, then?
Yeah, right now we're working on a tour of France in October where we'll be opening up for
St. Augustine, a label mate. The tour will probably be something like 10-14 days, all in France, which I can't wait for, because I'm usually jumping from country to country every day on European tours.
Will it just be you onstage?
It'll be a two-person lineup, with a French rhythm section I've recruited through the label. It should be a lot of fun.
