Local rapper JP (Tha Mex) died on Sunday morning. JP -- whose real name was John P. Garcia -- was shot and killed on Cesar Chavez and Mercier, around 4AM. According to Fox 4 KC, witnesses said that following the gunshots, the suspect vehicle raced down a dead end street and ripped through a nearby fence to escape. Police are looking for a white Ford Crown Victoria with Kansas plates, and front end damage.

Hello Everyone- I am sorry, the marty moreno who posted that comment is not me. I was born and raised on the Westside. Although I never met John Paul, I was saddened to hear about his leaving us. I understand that my Daughter-in-law is related to JP, and my brother's fiance is a very good friend of JP's wife. Many people who know me, know that I personally have suffered sudden loss of a loved one. I also know the outpouring of support the Westside and Argentine communities showed my family in our time of grief. I am not sure if there is another marty moreno out there, and I apologize for the unkind words written in my name, and I am saddened to have to respond to this, as I received a call this evening asking if this was me who left that message. You are correct, I am too old, and at this age, understand a greater meaning of life, and how short and valuable it is. Losing a loved one is extremely hard, we know this. Most people who know me, know that I am open to discussing it further. This brought up alot of thoughts of my own family members who have been taken away without a chance to say good-bye or any opportunity to stop it. When i first heard the news, I asked my brother if there would be a fundraising as I would've liked to have volunteered my DJ time, as I saw the outpouring of support for my family in our time of grief, but we didn't know. I worked with jp for three months so I only knew him a short period of time but he was always happy, smiling, singing, and just having a good time. He had a great personality and was fun to be around. I pray for his family and my heart goes out to his children. He will be greatly missed.
JP you will be missed, I know how it feels to loss someone close to you I have been their before. My heart goes out to JP's family.

I have known JP since we were like 8 or 9 years old he went to Chouteau elementary and Eastgate Middle school for a short while. We had tryed to stay in touch through the years but hadnt spoke to him for about 4 years. I have fond memories of him that I will never forget. I am glad I was blessed to have known him. I knew he was going somewhere with his career and fuck the person who took it all away from him sooo soon. See you one day JP
this is a terrible lost. not only to the community he lived in but to kc's music game that is still on the rise. He was so determined and was truly headed to the top to represent for us Latinos. Its a shame our own kind had to destroy such a valuable life. they will reap what they sow.
