The only thing we can believe in anymore.
For a minute there, it looked like the new judges' table was locked in:
Steven Tyler and
Jennifer Lopez would join Randy Jackson. But it was widely reported yesterday that J. Lo's demands had gotten "
out of hand," and that she was out of the running for the gig. (Note to J. Lo: Nobody under the age of 18 even knows why
you're famous.) And still no confirmation on Tyler. So let's examine the field of potential candidates, shall we?
STEVEN TYLER
Cons: Loose cannon. Remember when he tried to break up Aerosmith last year? No? Well,
it happened.
Likelihood: Pretty strong. He
told a reporter he had the gig a week ago, and
Idol is probably just waiting to make the announcement until all its ducks are in a row.
MARIAH CAREY
Cons: Insane outfits. Actually, scratch that. Insane outfits belong on the 'pro' side.
Likelihood: Below average. Husband Nick Cannon
told reporters that she's interested in the job. But she doesn't seem to have been among FOX's initial leading candidates.
BRET MICHAELS
Cons: Could this guy be more satisfied with himself? The only thing he seems to have learned from his
near-death experience is that there's only so much time in this world to become as obnoxiously famous as possible.
Likelihood: Below average. If Tyler's in, it's unlikely that Michaels would also be in -- only room for one white rock dude from the 80s at the table, one would think.
CHRIS ISAAK
Cons: But does he have the star power in 2010?
Likelihood: Tough call. That he was mentioned early on is encouraging. But it kind of feels like he's a backup choice at this point.
JESSICA SIMPSON
Pros: America loves celebrity weight fluctuations! Also, what else is she doing? Nothing!
Cons: Doesn't actually know anything about music.
Likelihood: Decent. You know FOX wants a cute ditz on the panel, and she's the best around.
HOWARD STERN
Pros: Capable of being as ruthless as Simon.
Cons: Too mean? Too old?
Likelihood: Decent. We know
Idol's
been in talks with Stern going back to the beginning of this year. But the guy has a $500 million contract; hard to negotiate with a guy like that.
My vote: How about doing a pupil-becomes-the-teacher type of deal and bringing back
Kelly Clarkson? Or even my boy
Taylor Hicks, who is
at Knuckleheads this Saturday?
