Memoryhouse, Twin Sister and Motorboater hit Lawrence

Memoryhouse's glacial compositions are soft-focus smatterings of dreamy reverb, cast in sonic pastels. But don't dismiss the Ontario duo as another exponent of mere lo-fi.

Watch the video for Memoryhouse's "Lately" after the jump.

The band's debut EP, The Years, demonstrates a wider range than most of the scuzz emitting from basements and bedrooms. It's also more pensive than the beach-romping records of Memoryhouse's peers, perhaps because band member Evan Abeele was once a student of classical music. The intricately wrought instrumentation around Denise Nouvion's conversational vocals is a tribute to the shoegaze monsters of yore (namely, My Bloody Valentine). The act comes to the Bottleneck with Twin Sister -- the young dream-pop band recently in town with Bear in Heaven -- and local synth-pop champ Motorboater.
