Aretha Franklin's son was severely beaten in Detroit on Monday evening at a gas station by three people. It isn't clear why the 52 year-old was attacked, but he was taken to the hospital immediately, and was released today after undergoing an emergency oral surgery, according to CNN.com

That's why Franklin has canceled her appearance at Power and Light tonight Sunday, which was in celebration of the 1YEAR2GO countdown for the Kauffman Center for Performing Arts.

Chaka Kahn will replace Franklin. One thing's for sure: Khan might be every woman, but she sure ain't Aretha Franklin. Just sayin'.

I sure hope this isn't a reflection of what's to come at the Performing Arts Center ... Replacing the queen of soul with Chaka ????? Stupid. Now I'm VERY frightened at what kind of choices will be made there ... smelling like another BOMB in KC !!

Having been fortunate enough to previously see both of these talented women in concert, I prefer Chaka Khan. Chaka still has the electricity to power an exciting, interactive show. Aretha's voice is still stellar, but it's no different than listening to one of her albums, but it's still a great experience. I'm sorry for the circumstances surrounding Ms. Franklin's departure, but I'm SO happy I will be able to see Chaka Khan again!
