Free Energy and Vampire Weekend both cover the Boss -- but that's just one thing they have in common

BRUUUUUUCE!
  • BRUUUUUUCE!

Know what the other one is? They're both coming to Kansas City in the next few weeks. Huzzah!

Free Energy is tart little rock and roll band from Philly, and they're at RecordBar with the infamous Foxy Shazam on October 21, whose frontman pissed himself onstage last time he was in Lawrence. (We don't make this shit up.) Meanwhile, clean and chipper Ivy Leaguers Vampire Weekend are playing at Starlight this Saturday with Beach House. But they both covered Springsteen's "I'm Going Down" recently. Who did 'er better? Check it out after the jump, and see for yourself.

Here's Free Energy's version of the tune, which they played live with the help of Titus Andronicus in Atlanta earlier this week.

And here's Vampire Weekend's softer, clearer version of the tune that they did earlier this month, at at Seattle radio station. (We're going to guess that the soccer moms and the sensitive types dig this acoustic rendering.)
