This past spring, Venice, the hip-hop musical created by Kansas City Repertory Theatre artistic director Eric Rosen and composer Matt Sax, made its world premiere. No less a voice than Time magazine called it the best musical of the year -- not just in Kansas City, in the whole United States.

Brandon Draper, drummer for local beloved jazz ensemble Organic Proof, sat behind the kit for the Rep shows, and starting this Sunday he'll be drumming at Venice performances in Los Angeles.

October 17 through November 14, Draper will be at the Center Theatre Group of Culver City "recreating and reinventing those same beats for the L.A. premiere" of Venice. But he'll be back in KC on October 29 and 30 for shows with Quixotic in Yardley Hall at JCCC. Nice work, dude!
