Four gifts to get your music lover

What not to do.
  • What not to do.

Music lovers are a tricky bunch. Don't think you can just run out and grab the new Kanye album, and check 'em off your list. (They've already torrented it, and besides, they think it's overrated anyway.) Here are some thoughtful ideas for you lovers of music lovers during the holiday season. If they're not of the guitar-playing persuasion -- in which case we advocate a gift certificate to the Midwestern Musical Co. -- we feel your pain. Check out some of our suggestions below.

This awesome vintage Descendents shirt. It's actually at Halcyon Diversified Trading. Oh, wait, no it's not. Because I bought it yesterday. HA!

No, but seriously, it's mine. I know. I feel awesome about it. But, you know what's a great substitution? Let your lucky giftee find their own awesome vintage t-shirt -- believe me, they have tons -- with a Halcyon Diversified Trading gift certificate. There's also gear, rad posters, records, and several very large metal beer wall adornments. Kitsch enthusiasts will swoon.

Is the person you're shopping for a vinyl lover? Try a LoveGarden Sounds gift certificate. Driving to Lawrence may be a haul -- if you're really generous, you might throw in a couple bucks to soften the blow to your music-lover's gas tank -- but LoveGarden's collection of vinyl and CDs is worth it. Your gift certificate also includes free cat-petting while at the store. (Be sure to highlight this added furry bonus for those who are not allergic.) Other options: Vinyl Renaissance, for the JoCo vinyl lover, or Streetside Records in Westport, for those who are automotively impaired.

LoveGarden Sounds: kittehs are included.

Buy 'em a Midwest Music Foundation membership. It's only $25, and the person you give this to will feel the love all year long: they get ten percent off drinks at Czar Bar, RecordBar, Crosstown Station, and daily drink specials at Davey's and the Brick. (Plus, ten percent off tattoos at the Mercy Seat -- sweet! -- and other local music-friendly stuff, too. Click here to find out more.)

RecordBar hot shorts. Whoa. These probably fall strictly in boyfriend territory. (Or save 'em for Valentine's day, for the randy music lover, perhaps?) If your girl likes to rock the butt floss, you can always skip over to Knuckleheads' Ebay store for a blues-themed thong. Rock local, to the core.

That says: "Take me to Knuckleheads for some blues."
