Bill Belzer toured Europe playing drums in Uncle Tupelo in the early nineties, which is an impossibly cool line to have on one's resume. But he's also been a member of some memorable local bands over the years: Mongol Beach Party, New Amsterdams, SSION. Tonight, to benefit the Kansas City Free Health Clinic's HIV testing programs, Belzer is hosting what amounts to a roast of himself at RecordBar.
His current bands, the Sleazebeats and Mary Fortune, will play sets, and Shannon Michaelski of SSION will emcee the event/bust Belzer's balls. "Special guests, Power Point presentations, local celebrities, and costume changes - Fun!" says Belzer, whose new EP, You Shouldn't Have, will also be available for purchase. The show starts at 10 p.m.; suggested donation is $10.
